Classic Game Characters In Spore CC
Posted on July 05, 2008     Reported by 18Lama
Spore, the next and arguably most ambitious project from Sims mastermind Will Wright, has a sneak preview of sorts with the recently-released Spore Creature Creator. Although only one piece of the total Spore experience, players have quickly taken to creating their own cuddly creatures, creepy crawlies, and abominations. Aside from penisaurs, the first thought to a lot of gamers was to pay homage to their favorite games and franchises with their creations. We're going to take a look at some of these, courtesy of the Sporepedia

The NPD Group has released US PC software sales data for the week ending June 21, with EA's Spore Creature Creator coming out on top.

Another Spore Hands-On
Posted on July 02, 2008     Reported by Nightfawx
by Christopher Grant:
As equal parts excuse and contrition, I feel it's necessary to add the following disclaimer to this writeup: spending thirty minutes with something like Spore is like spending thirty minutes on the history of the Russian space program or spending thirty minutes on the theory of evolution (or any other seemingly disparate discipline you may find in one of Will Wright's famously schizophrenic presentations) – it may be deep enough to wet your toes but there's an ocean out there. At a recent EA event in Los Angeles, myself and the rest of the E3 Judges had an opportunity to get our feet wet (figuratively, of course).

MTV MultiPlayer Preview
Posted on July 02, 2008     Reported by kant01
In this new preview, MTV MultiPlayer shares what it learned about the Spore creature "timeline" which tracks the progress of the species you shepherd through evolution. A line charts the historical progress of your creature and veers toward one of three tendencies in any of the game’s first four stages. In the space stage, there are nine different classifications to choose to pursue. At the end of each stage, the classification you achieved rewards the species with special abilities, some of which can be used in specific stages.

IGN.com Pre-E3 Hands-on With Spore!
Posted on July 01, 2008     Reported by LightWarriorK
Exerpt: July 1, 2008 - So you may be sitting there, wondering what you'll be able to do with the cute little creature that you've created using Spore's popular Creature Creator editor released two weeks ago. Since the tool was released, more than 1.3 million creatures have been created, and the full game isn't shipping till September. (Will Wright recently told an audience at the Apple Store in San Francisco that he originally hoped to have 100,000 user-made creatures in time for the game shipping.) Luckily, we had a chance to briefly play the civilization stage of Spore to see what some of the latter game is like....

Back when kotaku.com posted the Spore Creature Creator created Xbox 360 controller, that was a pretty big deal! Well, if only because everyone was too busy making phallus monsters. Seems like folks have moved onto other creative endeavours — like the Wii-mote, for example. A quick search turns up twenty or so Wii-mote monsters, all of varying skill level.

Interview: Spore's Soren Johnson
Posted on June 24, 2008     Reported by rybolton
Leaving Civilization IV and settling into Spore's universe.
Soren Johnson is one of the best game developers you've never heard of. As the lead designer of Sid Meier's Civilization IV, Johnson successfully reprogrammed, redesigned, and re-imagined key elements of the classic PC strategy franchise, making a good case for getting his own name affixed to the title as well. After finishing Civ 4, Johnson, anxious for a new challenge, contacted Will Wright, expressing interest in working on Spore, and Wright welcomed him aboard. The addition of Johnson to the Spore team was greeted positively in PC gaming circles, reassuring gamers that the long-delayed project would now get a significant boost in talent. We recently sat down with Johnson to pick his brain about Spore, Civ, PC gaming, and everything in between.
